Overview
The coating repair project at GPP-ATUABO focused on mitigating corrosion-related risks and enhancing the infrastructure’s integrity. The project involved surface preparation, primer and topcoat application, and multiple inspections to ensure coating quality.
Scope of Work
- Surface Preparation: Conducted hand tool cleaning following SSPC-SP 2 standards using scrapers, non-spark wire brushes, sandpapers, and thinner for degreasing.
- Coating Application: Applied Carbomastic 15 (Part A & B) as the primer and Interthane 990 as the topcoat, using Thinner #10 as per manufacturer specifications.
- Inspection Process: Included material inspection, surface cleaning inspection, dry film thickness (DFT) inspection, and final coating inspection.
Key Areas Addressed:
- Condensate pump shed (Unit 42)
- Inlet piping of cooling pumps
- E-house ventilation panels
Achievements
- Successfully completed coating repair within the project timeframe.
- Improved corrosion protection in critical processing areas.
- Enhanced infrastructure longevity and operational safety.
- Identified key challenges, leading to recommendations for future projects, including clear communication of terms of reference and potential plant depressurization to facilitate better surface preparation.
